Riddles

I’ll riddle you this.

What is seven years old and yet brand new?

What is both well matured and rare?

How does 2017 plus 7 = 17/01?

When is Vintage..vintage?

We like to introduce new flavours and recipes to you. It keeps life interesting and your taste buds buzzing. So, we have made a new cider. Our first for a few years. Or rather, to be precise, we have bottled an old cider and made it available as a new drink. And our new drink is seven years old.

In the autumn of 2017, when Teresa May was Prime Minister, we harvested, crushed and fermented a selection of Berkshire apples.  It bubbled away nicely for a while; we racked it and then we let it mature. It sat in a cool, dark corner of our Cider House for seven years.

And so here we are in January 2025. We present to you our newest cider. It’s a seven-year-old Vintage 2017 cider.  Launched on the 17th  of January. Now you may ask does it make a difference maturing for seven years. I think seven years is the minimum for a decent whisky, so they think it does. Moreover, you will see many Vintage ciders. Few have specific dates as the definition of Vintage is loosely “old and good”.  So, we think to find a seven-year-old cider is a rare thing. And in our view, seven years makes a wonderful difference.

Our Vintage is orangey brown in colour, it is almost clear with a very faint haze. It has been bottle conditioned for the last few weeks so it comes with a very, very gentle fizz. It smells of orchard floor, tastes of autumn and it’s chewy. You know what I mean.

Now a word or two of warning. We don’t have a lot of it. We have about 400 bottles. And obviously we can’t make it again. So, it’s a genuine limited edition which, when it’s gone it’s gone. And of course it’s properly priced.   So, treat yourself to a case for being good in January. And if you can’t control yourself, you have the option of not shipping it until February.  But you had better buy it now. Enjoy!!
